Our Choice – Blog Action Day

Today is blog action day. Thousands of other bloggers are writing about the environment.

This day is all about choice.

In every act there is choice, and every act is balanced by its own consequences.

A particular choice was made long ago. We chose to embrace technology. A spell was woven into the history of humanity, and only now are the true implications of this act starting to emerge. The world has changed through our own human will, in confusing and seemingly meaningless ways at first, chaotic patterns spreading out across time and space, to finally converge at this exact point. Today, this topic is on the minds of millions. Today, we have the chance to truly realize were we stand. Now the way parts again, offering yet again more choices.

But what are we doing in the present moment with this incredible gift, choice?

We choose to see destruction instead of beauty, to see decline instead of renewal.

We choose fear, instead of love.

Fear. It rules our perception. What a pitiful and selfish game we are playing. Now that we are terrified and scared to death, we want to make amends. Halfheartedly, we take action, out of pride and regret. Wishing to give up our power, to undo our acts, we want to be relieved from this tremendous responsability.

But there is another way to face this situation.

Our planet is not dying. We, the beings populating it, are struggling for our lives. Our very existence is being threatened, we have been walking along the edge for far too long. Now is the time to leave all regrets and unfulfilled possibilities behind, to embrace what is and not what could have been. We must take responsability for our collective actions. All the tools are at our disposal – we can start changing our ways right now, one day at a time.

Once again, choice. A little word that makes us feel so uncomfortable. What will we make of it? What kind of world are we going to wake up to tomorrow? In the end, it’s all up to us.

It’s always less difficult to act without considering the consequences.

To preserve our planet we all must think in a more than 25 years view.
In fact every little action made today matters.
